Introduction to the Canine Patient – Independent Study Program Available at any time & open to anyone. No prerequisites. This course is required prior to engaging in the Canine Rehab series of courses. Course content includes an introduction to dogs, anatomy, orthopaedic and neurologic conditions of the dog, gait patterns in the dog, occupation health considerations, common canine medications and nutraceuticals, legal, political and practice issues. Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation The purpose of this 3-day course is to provide the participant with a fundamental understanding of functional anatomy and palpation, canine behaviour as it relates in a therapeutic setting, and the ability to perform a rudimentary musculoskeletal and neurological assessment of the dog. Participants will be guided to use their existing problem solving knowledge and understanding of basic physiotherapy principles and treatment techniques when confronted with canine-specific conditions and pathologies. Advanced Canine Rehabilitation This four-day practical course is intended to build upon the information presented in the Introductory Canine Rehabilitation Course and includes joint by joint and spinal physical assessment, neurological evaluations & treatment, therapeutic exercise, sporting dog injuries and surgical descriptions.
