How A Physical Therapist Can Help

· ASSESSMENT
The physical therapist will evaluate your animal's movement, spinal and joint function, strength, endurance and other physical abilities and properties to determine the impact of an injury, degenerative / inflammatory disease or disability. Physical Therapy is the only allied health profession with the capability to assess and treat joint, spine, muscle and neurological dysfunctions ALL IN ONE! It is advised that you first consult with your veterinarian for a full physical exam before seeking a physiotherapy assessment.

· DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT PLAN
Your physical therapist will determine how best to restore proper movement and reduce the pain from an injury or disability based on scientific knowledge and thorough assessment of your pet's condition, environmental factors and lifestyle. He or she will work with you, the owner, to plan an individualized treatment program.

· EVALUATION & TREATMENT
Physiotherapists use a variety of tools and methods available to them in order to evaluate and treat. Manual therapy encompasses mobilizations, manipulations, massage and stretching. PT's have specialized training in joint biomechanics of the spine and extremities and of muscle origins, insertions and actions. Electrotherapeutic modalities refers to ultrasound, laser, electrical muscle stimulation and electroacupuncture. Lastly, exercise prescription: PT's are the only healthcare professionals trained in exercise prescription for specific and specialized problems.
